Welcome to the Town of Cumberland!

The Town of Cumberland, Indiana, is located on the Historic National Road with about half of the community in Hancock County and half in Marion County immediately east of Indianapolis.  Cumberland was officially platted July 7, 1831 and named for Cumberland, Maryland, the east terminus of the Historic National Road.  Cumberland's historic downtown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has maintained much of its original small town charm, while providing the amenities of an urban area.  New Gateway Sign

Cumberland is just a 20 minute drive to Indianapolis and has easy access to major interstates and the Indianapolis International Airport.  The Town is also served by the IndyGo bus system providing commuters an alternative.

Cumberland strives to maintain a good quality of life and have its own unique identity.  Within the last couple of years the Town rebranded itself with a logo that illustrates the pride held for the Historic National Road heritage, quaint small town, and proximity to Indianapolis.  Cumberland has four (4) parks ranging in size and activities.  The Cumberland Pennsy Trail opened in 2011 and plans are in process for expanding the Town's trail network.  Cumberland is also proud to have a great Farmers Market and an expanding program of festivals and events.

Don't forget to stop by the Farmers Market Saturday mornings from May until October!

Cumberland Arts Goes to Market is August 18, 2012 this year!  Go to www.cumberlandfbc.org for more information on the day's activities or to be a vendor.
