Blues, Beer and BBQ
Cumberland’s Blues, Beer, and BBQ (BBB) started as the brain child of Assistant Town Manager Christine Owens and Special Projects Coordinator Renee Garard. The two decided to combine the idea of a summer concert with the creation of a pop-up event space to bring out town citizens and promote a sense of place.
The first BBB was held on June 3, 2017, at the newly created Saturn Space and was a huge hit! There were numerous requests to do more so they turned it into a summer concert series and held two more in July and August. The estimated crowd size for each 2017 event was between 300 and 500 people with crowd sizes growing with each concert. We expect even larger crowds for 2018.
The success of last year’s BBBs was far beyond what we could have imagined. The amount of positive feedback was astounding, and Cumberland has quickly become a local blues destination in central Indiana. We now receive regular requests from Blues bands asking to book our next event.
The Cumberland BBBs are unique in that they are family events. Most Blues venues only accommodate the over 21 crowd. But with our public space, free admission, and adjoining park, the Cumberland BBBs are enjoyable for all ages and are unique in helping to create Blues fans for the future. Our BBBs are attended by lifelong Blues fans as well as those who have never attended a single Blues concert. There is truly not another destination in our area solely dedicated to the Blues the way Saturn Space is.
